Progesterone

Hey I am starting progesterone this week -- I have heard from my doc and the home health pharmacist that they are horrible! Is this true? Any suggestions on how to make them less so?

What kind of progesterone - pills suppositories or PIO?

I did the shots. The first time I iced to numb the spot, but I think I ended up making it worse and tight. Then second time I just tried to stay relaxed and if they hurt later, because they will, I would put a heating pad on. You will get knots all over and you'll run out of places that aren't sore. I just kept telling myself that if this was going to help me get pregnant and stay pregnant it was worth every second. I tried not to make it a bigger deal than it had to be because it is really mental.

After like 7 weeks I went on some trouches that you stick under your tongue and let disolve they were much better!

I did the troches that you stick under your tongue, I never went through the shots, but I've heard they are awful. The troches under the tongue are not to bad, they just taste kind of yucky.

My doctor suggested the natural subligual progesterone and I did that, I guess it is supposed to calm the "hormonal moodiness". At the time, I was pretty much hormonal and moody already anyway, so I didn't notice anything! :)

Good luck...I wish you the best!

I just did a round of IVG where I had to do the PIO shots. I was really nervous about them because compared to the stimulation shots, the needle is huge and the stuff is so thick that it takes a while to get it out.

But guess what? They really weren't so bad. Sometimes it hurt a little bit, sometimes it bled. But as long as whoever is doing the shot does it does it really quickly in the right spot, you should barely feel it. I never did anything fancy to the injection site, but some people swear by icing the site beforehand to numb it, then using a heating pad afterward to disperse the oil. Do whatever works for you--for me it just seemed like too much hassle and I wanted it over with.

After doing it for 2 weeks, I barely noticed anymore. Don't worry, you'll be just fine.

I have done these shots many, many times. They aren't comfortable, that is for sure. Just make sure that you aren't leaning your weight on the hip you are getting it in. It also helps if you have a great person that knows what they are doing, give them to you. My husband became a pro. Good luck!!
