hey everyone..
it's me, ashley. i just wanted to say thanks for the advice to see an RE without wasting anymore time on the OB/GYN. i have successfully made an appointment with the RCC in sandy. it seems that most of you have either been there or recommend it. i'll be seeing one of the MDs there in a couple weeks after i get my HSG next week. if you guys have any specific advice or heads up about what to expect or what to take to the appt i would greatly appreciate it. thanks again.

Ashley, I am new to this blog and would like to know what the RE is. I had a HSG back in October so I can relate to that fun appointment! I would love any advice on infertility! Thanks!
Kristin
An RE is a reproductive endocrinologist--basically a doctor who specializes in reproductive medicine. Congrats on your appointment! At our first one, they wanted us to bring all the paperwork filled out, plus my medical records from my OB/Gyn and the results of any and all tests. But our RE is at the U, so it might be different at the RCC.
You are so brave to have made such a big step. You will be so glad you did. Now you can get down to the problem and get things working. As far as the HSG test, just make sure you take your hubby with you. I didn't have mine go because I didn't think it was a big deal. It really would have been nice to have him there holding my hand. Just remember this will all be worth it. We are praying for you!
So this is not to freak you out, but that was one of the worst appts I had, so MAKE SURE you have your husband or someone with you. I told my husband not to worry about it, and it was bad. I live in Boise, but the place I went was very surgical/intense. Plus the doctor was an idiot and kept saying things like "WHOA what's this? I haven't seen problems like this in a while...normally this is just plumbing...it will take a lot of work for you to have biological kids..." I was so upset that I called my RE and cancelled everything and they called back and said they are use to dealing with problems, and I went in and she did a water ultrasound, said "OK, let's do surgery" and it fealt like no big deal. ANYWAY, have someone with you and know that the imager will most likely not be a reproductive specialist, so don't worry whatever comes! Ugh.
My first appointment with the RE (like Hillary - up at the U) I took ALL of my medical records with me - including my most recent physical, the paperwork they wanted me to fill out before coming, and my hubby's SA. Be SURE to take that because that is usually the first thing they will ask about and want to see.
Also, don't be afraid to speak your mind. It's better to feel like you have some say in your treatment rather than none.
And if you don't like your doctor, don't be afraid to ask for someone else. I had a friend tell me that my RE was a jerk, and so I was really nervous at my first appointment, but his no-nonsense approach really works for us.
Good luck!
I've never had the HSG, though should have scheduled one by now. Oh well.
Anyhow, I've read from some of the other gals that it's not a pretty little thing so I completely agree with the idea of bringing along some support and 800 mg of Advil. Nothing says thank-you better than an anti-inflammatory! Good luck.
